It's amazing how we respond to rituals: the simple things (like telling the cab driver where you want to go, as you mentioned, as the act that completes the ritual) seem to signal the brain to enter and exit a sacred, or at least transformational, space. For me, ritual is important to remind me that I am not beginning, but continuing—that I am in the middle of it, which is far less burdensome and scary than starting out or finishing off.

My perfect reset is a lavender-scented eye pillow and ambient music. I lie down for 10-15 minutes a day in the afternoon.
