Resonated with this one, Amber! I told you this story but it’s worth sharing here: when I was around 23 I backpacked and worked on organic farms (WWOOFing!) across New Zealand. On one north of Auckland I met a girl who kept a journal. It was thick and heavy and worn-out. She told me that she filled it up from beginning to end. Then whited out every page. Then filled it up again.

I remember being astonished. WHAT?! For an intellectual and paper hoarder like me, this was and remains just outrageous. And yet she seemed to achieve the same kind of closure and decluttering you talk about in this episode.

Today I sit on a mountain of physical and digital crap I’ve built over the years. My intention is to work through and use it all, bit by bit, or at least make it available. But I produce new stuff much faster than I recycle the old. Maybe I need to pull out a match?

I think a ceremonial burning is a great thing. It signals your brain not to be married to old ideas, but for your work, I think, the "lightening" may come from letting all of your avid readers have a taste!
